This is one of the releases from Batch 1, featuring a 2006 vintage. Considering its flavor profile and bottle count, the cask was likely a sherry butt or puncheon. Aged for approximately 11 years in a large cask, with an astonishing high proof of 67.2%. From this point onward, I imagined a rough, immature malt and approached the tasting with caution, but I was surprised. For some unknown magic, it exhibits a diverse range of maturity and is quite well-finished. The aroma carries strong sherry cask nuances with sweet elements like jam and caramel, but the maltiness asserts itself due to its youthfulness. On the palate, similar fruity jam notes remain, with a balanced sweetness and tannic structure, savory maltiness, and depth-enhancing elements. At this stage, I feel it is already quite well-developed. If further integration occurs and the subtle creamy nuances become more pronounced, it could become an exceptionally high-quality malt. While I can't yet call it intoxicating, considering its price, it deserves a very high evaluation. It seems to be highly regarded in the UK market as well; the UK online shop I usually use already has this out of stock. A nice bottle that is enjoyable to drink now or age further.
