As expected, it was a young and delicious Islay malt. Islay Single Malt (Lagavulin) ISLAY SINGLE MALT (LAGAVULIN) 2008-2016 8yo THREE RIVERS 'DINOSOUR' #2273 51.3% one of 359 bottles, Bourbon Hogshead The aroma features fresh lemon, vanilla, youthful malt, strong smoky peat, sea breeze, and fish stock. Upon tasting, it has a spicy tingle, fresh citrus notes, strong young malt character, some chewy umami, a sweet flavor without any off-notes, pronounced acidity, seawater saltiness, oiliness, smoked fish elements, and iodine. However, the smoky peat is sharp and intense. [Good/Very Good] From Three Rivers' Dinosaur series, this is Lagavulin 2008, aged for 8 years. Although there's no label indication, the content appears to be young Lagavulin. As expected for a young Islay malt aged in a bourbon hogshead, it delivers fresh citrus and vanilla notes alongside seawater nuances and a bold peaty character. Despite its relatively lower ABV for the aging period, it retains some spicy tingle without being harsh, offering a balance of sweetness, acidity, saltiness, and umami - showcasing the appealing youthfulness of Lagavulin. Even though young, it's notable how the peat masks some characteristics, making it a standout among early-maturing heavily peated Islay malts with an extra layer of quality. This dram was enjoyed at Oudou in Sagami-Higashi, Kanagawa. #Lagavulin (LAGAVULIN)
