Laphroaig 30 Year Old Official Bottling from the 1990s
Bottle #ラフロイグ(LAPHROAIG)
Indeed, it holds an irresistible charm for me.
Laphroaig 30 Year Old (43% ABV) Official Bottling from the 1990s
The aroma begins with a noble, rich sherry note, accompanied by strong peat featuring iodine and tar. Notes of grape juice emerge alongside dried fruits, black sugar, coffee, seafood stock, and concentrated orange. The mouthfeel is smooth, expanding into an aromatic complexity of excellent sherry and matured peat. Concentrated citrus notes with an earthy, savory depth follow, leaving a long, oily finish.
【Very Good/Excellent】
This is an official Laphroaig 30 Year Old bottling from the 1990s. Calculating backward, this would imply it was distilled in the 1960s.
The color is quite dark, but from the outset, the sherry character is strong and assertive. In addition to typical sherry-derived elements, there was a delightful grape juice-like quality that stood out. While slightly masked by the sherry, citrus notes characteristic of this era's Laphroaig emerge from deeper layers, with a slightly powdery texture.
Among 60s-era Laphroaig I've tasted, this one clearly has a stronger peat character. Upon drinking, it's still a clear combination of excellent sherry cask influence and matured peat, with the distinctive flavor profile of that era's Laphroaig emerging from deeper layers.
As I've mentioned before, this collaboration of sherry and peat notes hits my personal preferences perfectly. Moreover, it carries elements reminiscent of the classic old Laphroaig, which makes my preference clear.
If I had to critique, I would say the fruitiness characteristic of Laphroaig itself might have emerged slightly earlier for my personal taste.
This Laphroaig 30 Year Old is said to vary significantly in flavor depending on the cask lot, with earlier bottlings often considered superior. Indeed, among all I've tasted so far, this one is undeniably the best.
