Glen Grant 38 Year Old GM Distillery Label - Circulated in the 1980s
Bottle #グレングラント(GLENGRANT)
The successor bottle to the one featured in Lemon Heart manga. This time, it was quite good without excessive aging.
Glen Grant 38 Year Old GM Distillery Labels - 40% ABV, Circulated in the 1980s
The aroma has a good old character with apricot jam, plums, orange tea, gentle grains, faint old peat. The palate is smooth with diluted apricot jam sweetness, soft and non-assertive woodiness, with a slight bitterness but a lingering finish without harshness. [Good/Very Good]
This is the Glen Grant 38 Year Old from GM that circulated in the 1980s. While the proof-marked Grant's 38 Year Old featured in the manga Lemon Heart is famous, can this be considered its successor? Though it may seem like a vatting, it's likely primarily refill sherry casks. The aroma is gentle but expands with a diverse range of fruity and grainy notes, accompanied by aging character. In the background, there's a faint nuance of old peat that might hint at 1940s distillation specs. Though it has aging character, there's almost no over-aging sensation, and the balance is good, possibly due to dilution. There must be various batches with this label, but among contemporaries, it's a gentle balanced bottle with less sherry influence. Additionally, I just remembered after finishing this article: we actually introduced this bottle two years ago. The tasting notes and evaluation were largely similar, which gave me a sense of relief.
