Bottle #グレンマレイ(GLENMORAY)
A gentle malt with the elegance and dried notes of an ultra-long maturation. Glenmorangie GLENMORAY 47yo THE SCOTCH MALT WHISKY SOCIETY '35.50' 40.0% One of 201 bottles, Refill Bourbon Hogshead The aroma is elegant with a sense of maturation, featuring white wine, grapefruit, faint peach, slightly dried barley notes, light vanilla cream. On the palate, it starts with a smooth, water-like mouthfeel, expanding into refined sweetness and acidity of white wine and grapefruit, with oak. The body is light, revealing tar and old peat from the depths, leaving a delicate and beautiful finish, though not overly long. [Good/Very Good] SMWS's bottle code 35.50 corresponds to Glenmorangie's 47-year-old maturation. Interestingly, SMWS bottles from this era did not include vintage dates. While the bottling date is unknown, as it was released in April 2011, we can estimate the distillation date to be around mid-1960s. The alcohol strength is at the minimum of 40%. (※SMWS Distillery Code List here) From the start of the aroma, a diverse range of fruits with long maturation characteristics are sensed, with barley notes carrying slightly dried nuances. In addition to the original fruity character, a white wine-like quality reminiscent of old bottles emerged, with barley notes becoming more pronounced. On the palate, due to the cask strength reduction in alcohol content, it has a smooth, water-like mouthfeel, revealing refined sweetness and acidity of citrus fruits, with a light body. The presence of old peat lingering from the depths is perhaps unique to 1960s original spirit. Although the body shows signs of aging, this long-matured Glenmorangie exudes a delicate beauty.
