The aroma is strong on sherry, with plum jam, caramel, strong katsuobushi dashi, strong iodine and peat, nuts, a metallic note from the back, slightly vegetal. When drinking, it has a smooth texture, sherry-like sweetness with jam notes, a good tannin, rich, and slightly earthy peat is strong yet moist. Long finish.
[Good/Very Good]
The Elements of Islay from Specialty Drinks (Whisky Exchange), Ar3 is the third bottling in this series of Ardbeg.
The aroma has a strong sherry character, with clear sherry elements such as jam and caramel, while also asserting the typical Islay peat. The metallic and briny notes characteristic of Ardbeg are somewhat masked by the cask, making them slightly weaker.
When tasted, it has a viscous texture with a concentrated fruity sweetness reminiscent of sherry casks and good woody bitterness. The peat is strong and assertive, giving it a rich finish.
Sherry-forward Islay malts are becoming less common these days, and from the back, you can also sense Ardbeg's house style. With this specification, it might be worth buying.
