Bottle #ラガヴーリン(LAGAVULIN)
Though it appears young, this Lagavulin turned out to be surprisingly well-crafted and delicious.
Lagavulin LAGAVULIN OB Triple Matured Edition for Friends of the Classic Malts 48%
The aroma is rich, featuring apricot jam, seafood dashi, nuts, and a deep, savory barley note from the background, with strong yet smooth peat and oil. Upon drinking, it expands into a velvety mouthfeel with the deep sweetness of apricot jam, nuts, and a concentrated umami from natural seafood dashi and barley. The finish is long, oily, and peaty.
【Good/Very Good】
This is an official bottling of Lagavulin, released specifically for Friends of the Classic Malts. I believe this is a relatively recent bottling.
Though labeled as 'Triple Matured Edition,' the specific details of its maturation are unclear from the bottle itself. There is also no vintage or aging duration indicated.
The aroma clearly conveys Lagavulin's signature elements: apricot jam, seafood dashi, strong peat, oil, and barley. Upon tasting, there is no harshness, and the rich sweetness of apricot jam, along with the deep umami from seafood dashi and barley, is intensely flavorful. The peat remains strong, with a long, oily finish.
While whiskies without detailed specifications often tend to be younger, this Lagavulin did not feel particularly young. Instead, it left a strong impression of being well-crafted and matured.
Whether this is the result of triple maturation or not remains unclear, but it was a reassuringly delicious whisky to enjoy.
