Miyagikyo MIYAGIKYO OB SHERRY CASK 48%
The aroma features strong sherry, berry jam, pronounced sulfurous notes, coffee, bitter chocolate, and a faint touch of balsamic vinegar. On the palate, it delivers a rich sherry character with concentrated jam sweetness, matching the aromatic sulfurous notes, alongside roasted barley, herbs, and a pleasant tannic finish. The aftertaste is slightly spicy and sweet.

This is the highly anticipated new release: Miyagikyo's official no-age statement sherry cask. From the outset, the sherry character is fully expressed with a remarkably diverse aroma profile. However, this is a type where the cask influence dominates so strongly that Miyagikyo's usual characteristics are barely perceptible. Most notably, the pronounced sulfurous notes are quite intense. This is reminiscent of the sulfurous character often found in Nikka's sherry casks, making it a typical example of its kind. Regarding the sulfurous notes, opinions are likely to be completely divided. While some of the sulfuric character may mellow over time, it's unlikely to reach a level where those who dislike it would find it acceptable. That said, this type of sherry cask seems to be accepted overseas, and for those who enjoy it, it's a rich and diverse sherry cask malt. Like Yoichi, it has a higher alcohol content and a substantial weight from the sherry influence, providing ample drinking satisfaction.
