New Release: Laphroaig Official "BRODIR" Batch Number 001
Bottle #ラフロイグ(LAPHROAIG)
A Laphroaig that did not lose to its well-executed finish.
Laphroaig LAPHROAIG OB BRODIR Batch Number 001 48% PORT WOOD FINISH
The aroma features prunes, orange liqueur, chocolate, mint, peaty iodine, seafood stock, rich and heavy. Upon drinking, it spreads from a smooth mouthfeel with viscosity, strong sweetness of prunes and jam, earthy root vegetables, umami from seafood stock, smoky charcoal, and a lingering iodine finish. [Good/Very Good]
This is the official Laphroaig "BRODIR" bottled for European duty-free. Previously, there was also a version bottled for Nordic countries, and it seems this one follows the same concept of commemorating friendly relations with the Nordics. Finished in Port wood, it is batch number 001, indicating that bottling will continue. Unfortunately, it does not officially enter Japan, but some are coming in through parallel imports.
The Port cask finish is quite effective, with the aroma starting with rich fruitiness like prunes and chocolate nuances. Naturally, the strong peatiness (iodine) typical of official Laphroaig is assertive. It's a rather heavy aroma.
When drinking, viscosity is felt, and the thick fruitiness and rich sweetness reminiscent of Port are noticeable. Additionally, besides iodine, recent Laphroaig-like charcoal notes are quite strong.
A slight root vegetable note reminiscent of peat is slightly detectable, but overall, it's a very delicious bottle where the rich fruitiness from Port and Laphroaig-like peat coexist well. It's already a favorite Laphroaig at this point, but there's a feeling that it might become even more integrated and delicious with time.
