New Release: Laphroaig Official 'BRODIR' Batch Number 002
Bottle #ラフロイグ(LAPHROAIG)
While this is an interesting series, I felt it lacked the cohesion of its predecessor.
Laphroaig LAPHROAIG OB 'BRODIR' Batch Number 002 48% PORT WOOD FINISH
The aroma is sweet with a clear port character, featuring ripe plums, slightly woody oak, antiseptic, and a strong peatiness with iodine notes.
On the palate, it has a smooth mouthfeel, maintaining the strong port character and woodiness from the aroma, with some floating cask influence, a rich sweetness, moderate astringency, sesame oil, a touch of bitterness, and the strong peatiness with iodine notes lingers long.
[Good]
This is Batch Number 002 of Laphroaig's official 'BRODIR' series, characterized by its Port Wood Finish. It was released as a tax-free product to commemorate the friendly relationship with Nordic countries.
While the initial release of Batch Number 001 was quite delicious, I had high hopes for this one. However, the woody character with a hint of raw woodiness and the subtle bitterness from the cask influence, along with an overly prominent port character, were noticeable.
Compared to the previous batch, it lacked cohesion, and the cask influence felt too obvious, giving a sense of artificial flavoring.
That said, it still maintains the strong peatiness with iodine notes typical of official Laphroaig, and even with this cask-influenced style, the house style is clearly present.
The sweetness is quite strong, and such a sweet Laphroaig is relatively rare. It's certainly an enjoyable malt as a unique variation.
