Laphroaig (Islay) 18 Year Old Loch Lomond Distillery Malt Selection, Circulated in the 1980s
Bottle #ラフロイグ(LAPHROAIG)
A bit light, but it had an intoxicating sensation that made me think of 1970s Laphroaig.
Laphroaig (Islay) 18yo Loch Lomond Distillery Malt Selection 40%... Circulated in the 1980s
The aroma is strong and opulent, with a touch of sensuality. It features concentrated grapefruit and its pith, prosciutto melon, white flowers, vanilla, a gentle peat with iodine notes, and an enchanting intoxication. The mouthfeel is smooth and slightly powdery with concentrated grapefruit, prosciutto melon, refined sweetness, and a balanced acidity. The body is light with a pleasant lingering aftertaste of fruit and slightly smoky peat.
【Very Good】
This is a half-bottle of an Islay-labeled 18-year-old whisky bottled by Loch Lomond Distillery in the 1980s. Although there is no distillery label, it's rumored to be Laphroaig, and upon tasting, I'm certain it is. It's said to be a cask that was originally acquired for the blended Scotch Royal, but not bottled for that purpose. The aroma is strong and opulent with elements like concentrated grapefruit, its pith, and prosciutto melon reminiscent of 1970s Laphroaig. It also has a noticeable iodine note, making it sensually intoxicating. Upon tasting, the mouthfeel is smooth and slightly delicate with a fruity texture accompanied by peat, leading to a pleasant aftertaste. It's an extremely appealing aroma, and while it's clearly a Laphroaig I love, I found myself thinking that a more powdery and concentrated version would be better. At 40% ABV, it's likely a single cask. I understand that it's not available, but since the aroma is similar to Ambre, I subconsciously expected a comparable flavor. Compared to an 1980s Ambre 10-year-old I was drinking at home, which had a 3% higher ABV due to dilution, this bottle had slightly less body and concentration. My evaluation is a bit strict due to my love for Laphroaig, but there's no doubt that this bottle captures the charm of 1970s Laphroaig, making it an outstanding bottle.
