Regarding the Codes of The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS)
Recently, The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (commonly known as SMWS) has been gaining reputation for having many delicious new releases in my circle and around me. Since the society has long been using code notations for distillery names, there is no official conversion table on their website. Because of this, I have been receiving questions like 'What distillery does this SMWS code correspond to?' and requests such as 'Please create a conversion table and post it.' While there are already some websites that have published several codes, I confirmed with Whisky Ee-san, the SMWS Japan branch, and received permission to post a conversion table on my blog. I was glad to confirm the newer codes from 126 onwards, as I wasn't entirely sure about them. I'll place the table at the bottom of the tag list on the left side of the screen, so please feel free to use it.
Personally, I surprisingly enjoy memorizing these kinds of things and remember quite a few. For example, I naturally learned through creative methods like 'Convallomore, which closed due to bankruptcy (code 83)' or 'Rossie is code 46, not 64' or 'Strathmill, the commemorative code 100, is surprisingly plain.' Regarding mnemonics (gorouawase), they tend to lean towards vulgar directions, so some of them are a bit too risqué to write here. (Laugh) Occasionally I forget them, so if you have any easy-to-remember mnemonics, please let me know!
With that in mind, the conversion table will be posted in the next entry.
*Due to character limits for a single post, I'll split it into two parts.
