TALISKER 10 Year Old Official Map Label Green Bottle, Circulated in the 1980s
Bottle #タリスカー(TALISKER)
The condition was good, and I felt a rare burst of deliciousness that pierced the brain. TALISKER 10 Year Old Original Bottle 45.8% - Circulated in the 1980s, MAP Label Green Bottle
The aroma features apricot jam, orange, a strong earthy note reminiscent of leaf mold, a moist barley sensation, intense peat, faint chlorine or metallic hints, leather, and an extremely rich profile. Upon drinking, it starts with a smooth mouthfeel that expands into a rich, jam-like sweetness, intense umami, refined peat, tar, leaf mold, richness, and a slightly oily, very long finish. [Very Good/Excellent]
This is the official bottle of TALISKER 10 Year Old, known as the Map Label. This particular version is the early green bottle, which was circulated from the 1980s. Later, it changed to a brown bottle that was often sold during the time I started drinking whisky.
The aroma has a fruity sensation with a viscous texture, an earthy quality like leaf mold, and a clear sense of savory barley and peat. There are also slight metallic or chlorine elements and a leather-like impression, making it extremely rich.
When drinking, the viscosity is evident, and the flavor is concentrated. The peat and earthy nuances are refined with a slightly tar-like quality, while the sweetness is rich but strongly savory, creating a piercing sensation to the brain. The finish is long and continues with a wonderful time.
Though it doesn't have surprising complexity or aging depth, the fruity notes, peat, barley, and earthiness each assert themselves strongly yet softly blend into a highly persuasive umami. This umami cannot be easily described as the typical barley sweetness, dashi-like savoriness, or condensed fruit deliciousness. However, it's an element that can be felt in such special bottles.
Though I usually associate this with old bottles, it might be the result of components blending through aging. While I love these elements, I can't express them well now, but I hope to find the right words eventually. In any case, it was a powerful and delicious TALISKER.
