Home Tasting: CARDHU 12yo Official Bottling from the 1980s
Bottle #カーデュ(CARDHU)
This was an astonishingly fruity malt that shocked me the first time I drank it.
CARDHU 12yo Official Bottling (43%) from the 1980s
・Aroma:
Extremely floral, grapefruit pith, diluted peach juice, melon just before ripening, a sense of aged character with some dryness, refined yet refreshing barley notes, well-dried hay, faintly old peat and earthiness.
・Flavor:
Smooth mouthfeel, a concentrated texture like freeze-dried fruit, grapefruit pith, lemon, sweetness of water-added peach juice, good acidity, barley umami, tar and old peat emerging from the depth. Though some dryness emerges from aging, the body is unexpectedly not light.
・Aftertaste:
The fruity notes of peach and grapefruit pith, along with old peat, linger for a long time.
・Dilution:
It expands naturally without breaking down.
・Overall Impression:
Strongly feels like a vibrant fruity whisky. Particularly the nuances of ripe peach and grapefruit pith are remarkable. The presence of old peat is also a pleasant impression.
【Very Good】
This is an official bottling of CARDHU 12yo from the 1980s.
When I first drank this in Yurakucho, I was deeply moved.
I thought the nuance of grapefruit pith was unique to 1960s Bowmore, but I experienced it at another distillery here.
Afterwards, I tried many bottles, but old standards with similar nuances were only Ortmore and GlenDronach.
While the original spirit quality is impressive, I also think there are aromas that emerged from aging and drying out. It was a bottle with a luxurious, intoxicating character.
And this label is one of my favorites.
It's chic and cool, right?
