New Release: Glenfarclas 15 Year Old Official Battle of Vimy Ridge Centenary 50.0%
Bottle #グレンファークラス(GLENFARCLAS)
It's a type that might need a bit more time, but the aroma wasn't bad.
Glenfarclas GLENFARCLAS 15yo OB for THE CENTENNIAL OF THE BATTLE OF VIMY RIDGE 50.0%
one of 1200 bottles
The aroma is a mellow recent sherry that wraps around the whole, diluted caramel sauce and honey, slightly sulfuric, with a moderate amount of malt and oak remaining.
When drinking, it has a rich sweetness from jams like marmalade and honey, a firm tannin, and a thick but slightly woody bitterness in the aftertaste.
[Good/Very Good]
This is a recently bottled Glenfarclas 15 Year Old, purchased directly from the distillery.
According to the label description, it seems to have been bottled to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge (1917). After a quick check, it appears to be a battle where Allied forces (Canada and the UK) fought and won, with both countries' flags depicted on the label.
The total number of bottles is 1200, which is a relatively large quantity, and the alcohol content is exactly 50%. It's likely that this was watered down (vatted).
Overall, it has the typical Glenfarclas aroma of recent sherry casks, with a concentrated fruity sweetness and rich sweetness.
I could slightly sense sulfury elements and woody bitterness, but perhaps due to the watering down (vattling), they weren't too intrusive, and these elements seemed to add depth.
It's already quite well-developed at this point, but I think it might be even better if given a bit more time to age before drinking.
