A clear BUNNAHABHAIN that beautifully conveys its essence.
BUNNAHABHAIN BUNNAHABHAIN 16yo JAMES MACARTHUR'S In Celebration 500 Years of Scotch Whisky 1494-1994 49%
The aroma is thick and rich, with oil, old white wine, a touch of beeswax, vanilla, a slightly damp plant-like quality, and a youthful maltiness.
On the palate, it has a plain flavor that expands from a smooth mouthfeel, with a syrupy sweetness, a solid maltiness, and a pronounced, plant-like bitterness.
[Good/Very Good]
One of the commemorative bottlings for the 500th anniversary of Scotch whisky by James MacArthur, this is BUNNAHABHAIN 16 Year.
Bottled in 1994, it is estimated to have been distilled around 1978.
It has a pleasant, matured old-world aroma with a noticeable weight overall.
The cask influence is relatively plain, with limited aging character. Although over 20 years have passed since bottling, it has developed well and retains a fresh maltiness.
The bottle seemed to have improved more through bottle aging than cask influence, and the unique bitterness in the latter part of the flavor profile perfectly embodies BUNNAHABHAIN.
While recently some long-aged, clean-tasting expressions have been seen, traditionally BUNNAHABHAIN is known for this rustic character, which I believe is its individuality.
This bottle allowed me to directly experience that essence.
