Bottle #ラフロイグ(LAPHROAIG)
This was an extremely impressive Laphroaig. Laphroaig 17 Year Old Specialty Drinks for Savoy Hotel, 51.2% ABV, one of 106 bottles The aroma is moist yet powerful and robust, with a concentrated, matured orange scent, thick jam-like qualities, faint powdered cheese, strong iodine peat, slightly smoky charcoal, nuts, barbecued or smoked meat, seafood stock, good woodiness, burnt barley, strong but not rough, very rich. Upon drinking, it starts with a smooth mouthfeel and gradually builds up stimulation, with the sweetness of thick marmalade or plum jam, a slightly chewy texture, good woody bitterness, savory stock and barley umami, strong charcoal-like peat, rich and warm, slightly oily and fruity long finish. 【Very Good/Excellent】 Specialty Drinks = Whisky Exchange bottled Laphroaig 17 Year Old for Savoy Hotel. Although there is no vintage notation, it is likely a recent bottling. Despite its specifications, this bottle is quite expensive. It has a luxurious yet robust aroma with clear fruity notes of matured oranges and thick jam, while the strong iodine peat characteristic of Laphroaig makes a bold statement. It also has a stock-like quality and a rich aroma. For a younger malt, its somewhat moist nuance is distinctive, hence it feels powerful without being rough. Tasting reveals a heavy yet smooth texture with the sweetness of thick jam, good woodiness, and rich umami. The peat has a strong charcoal-like quality typical of recent Laphroaig. The warm, long-lasting finish is very convincing, offering a compelling taste experience. Usually, fruity Laphroaig tends to be of the less intense refill cask type with citrus as the main note, often lacking in power. However, this Laphroaig has a unique rich, jammy fruitiness different from the bourbon cask type, with a strong peat presence that provides ample intensity. This level of richness in recent Laphroaig is unprecedented, and I'm very curious about the cask used. It feels like a masterpiece from Whisky Exchange aimed at a traditional hotel. With its various expressions, I would have loved to acquire it if it weren't so expensive.
