Dufftown 17 Year James MacArthur's Scotch Whisky 500th Anniversary Bottle
Bottle #ダフタウン(DUFFTOWN)
I felt there was a common nuance across this series.
Dufftown DUFFTOWN 17yo JAMES MACARTHUR'S In Celebration 500 Years of Scotch Whisky 1494-1994 58.5%
The aroma is mellow, with a pleasant old-world feel, a bold yet refined barley character, heated apple, cinnamon, vanilla, and plain cask notes.
When drinking, it has a straightforward flavor that gradually becomes spicy and tingling, with a texture that seeps into the palate, providing a chewy mouthfeel. The strong barley character and its umami, sweet richness, and long finish.
【Very Good】
One of the James MacArthur's Scotch 500th anniversary bottlings, Dufftown 17 Year.
Bottled in 1994, it is estimated to have been distilled around 1977.
Compared to other bottles in the same series, it is closer to Blair Athol in style, retaining more roughness than expected for its aging years, with less complex maturation notes.
In exchange, there is a texture that seems to come from post-bottling aging, with a chewy nuance and sufficient barley umami.
It appears to be a type that has become more enjoyable to drink since bottling.
The introduction of this James MacArthur's Scotch 500th anniversary bottle concludes here.
Overall, I found them to have fairly common specifications seen in Green Caden (late 1970s distillation with slightly short maturation), and the cask notes were similarly plain, yet not obviously dry or crisp.
Of course, there are shared elements, but the overall mellow nuance was impressive, which might be where the bottler's differences lie.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one-time opening.
