Aberfeldy 18 Year Old Official 'Chris Anderson's Cask' 54.9%
Bottle #アバフェルディ(ABERFELDY)
A full-on single cask expression. I wonder what the story is behind this bottle.
Aberfeldy ABERFELDY 18yo OB 'Chris Anderson's Cask' 54.9% One of 248 bottles
The aroma is strong with honey, orange marmalade, a matured savory barley note, subtle herbs, and a concentrated feel.
On the palate, it starts with a silky, viscous texture that expands powerfully, revealing ripe orange, a strong sweet honey flavor, deep barley umami, and rich oak. It leaves a long, pleasant finish.
[Very Good/Excellent]
This is an official single cask Aberfeldy 18 Year Old, labeled as being from Chris Anderson's cask, but the bottling date is unknown.
It was listed on an overseas auction, and the name is handwritten, suggesting it might be a commemorative bottle intended for staff or related to the distillery.
That said, it's a bit sad that bottle No. 005 out of the 248 was put up for auction. (laughs)
Regardless, the contents were a classic official Aberfeldy, and it was truly wonderful.
It doesn't have complex aromas or piercing fruit notes, but it's all about honey flavor, with a strong sweet richness and deep barley umami. It has just the right amount of maturity and oak character without being overly seasoned, making it a convincing and delicious whisky.
It's one of the best examples of my current taste preferences.
