Strathisla STRATHISLA 1948&1961-1981 GM ROYAL WEDDING 40%
Bottle #ストラスアイラ(STRATHISLA)
An exceptional masterpiece that fully showcases old sherry characteristics. Strathisla STRATHISLA 1948&1961-1981 GM ROYAL WEDDING 40% The aroma features a rich, old sherry with nuances of aged notes, grape skin, distinct old malt, clove, subtle balsamic vinegar and mirin, the woodiness of high-end furniture, and a faint earthy old peat in the background. On the palate, it expands with a more refined and aromatic complexity than its alcohol content suggests, mirroring the aroma with grape skin-like maltiness, a touch of fruit juice, jammy fruity sweetness, gentle tannins, pleasant woodiness, earthy old peat reminiscent of composted soil, and subtle spices like bouquet garni and clove. The finish is rich and lingering. 【Very Good】 This Strathisla was bottled by GM for the 1981 Royal Wedding of Charles and Diana. It is a vintage blend combining their birth years, 1948 and 1961. The sherry character is unmistakably old, with rich jammy fruits, balsamic vinegar, mirin, herbs, spices, and the earthy characteristics of aged malt. While it carries old nuances, there are no obvious signs of deterioration for a bottle over 30 years old. The grape-skin-like maltiness with old-malt nuances was particularly impressive and charming. Compared to my previous experience, this batch has less of the 1960s GM's noble, juicy character and instead offers a more complex flavor profile. It feels more like the 1948 vintage than the previous 1968 bottling. Such a specification is rare even among old bottles, making it an intriguing find.
