Bottle #グレンリベット(GLENLIVET)
I believe this is a masterpiece among the 'red marble' bottlings.
Glenlivet GLENLIVET 1954 15yo OB 45.7%
The aroma has a pleasant old-world charm, simple yet profound barley notes, orange liqueur, and with time, natural pear, peach, and guava nuances emerge. There's also a hint of well-fermented barley, smoked straw, and old peat.
On the palate, it has a smooth mouthfeel with a diverse range of fruits, slightly chewy barley with savory umami, gentle sweetness, and an earthy character with old peat and clay-like qualities. The finish is sensuous, long-lasting, and intoxicating.
【Very Good/Excellent】
This is the so-called 'red marble' Glenlivet from official bottling. It's a 15-year-old vintage bottled for the Italian market in 1954. This is one of my favorite bottles.
Working backward, this would suggest bottling around 1969-1970, meaning at least 45 years have passed since bottling. However, there's no dried-out impression or excessive old-world character, and the condition is remarkably good.
From the aroma, I can sense the rustic depth of barley from that era. Over time, the fruitiness has grown stronger. Naturally occurring peach, pear, and guava-like nuances are present, along with a strong, assertive old peat character typical of the 1950s.
On the palate, there's a diverse range of fruity notes and savory barley umami with chewy texture. The old peat character and earthy, grounded qualities provide a solid foundation. These elements blend seamlessly into an intoxicatingly sensuous finish that completely captivated me.
This isn't my first time drinking from this bottle, but no matter how many times I taste it, its exceptional quality always stands out. As far as I can recall, this might be my personal best Glenlivet.
