Bottle #ストラスアイラ(STRATHISLA)
As expected, there's a sense of over-ripeness, but the 1950s still have their unique aroma. Strathisla 1957-2007 GM Distillery Labels 43% The nose has a pleasant old-aged character, sensuous nuances, apricot jam, faint berry jam, woody notes reminiscent of antique furniture, incense, and hinoki (Japanese cypress), a strong black tea note, leather, herbs, earthy qualities, and old peat. On the palate, it starts with a smooth mouthfeel, expanding into a rich, diverse jam sweetness. The tightening woody notes of hinoki and incense, along with their accompanying astringency, are somewhat strong. Herbs and the earthy old peat deepen the flavor. The finish has some astringency but is long-lasting. 【Very Good】 Bottled by GM in 2007, this Strathisla 1957 has an astonishingly long maturation period of approximately 50 years. Although only about 10 years have passed since bottling, its vintage gives it a pleasant old-aged character. It has refined jam-like fruitiness, woody notes reminiscent of antique furniture and a unique hinoki-like character, along with the earthy old peat typical of the 1950s. As expected, the sensuous nuances covered the entire profile. When drinking, it has the same jam-like character and sweetness as the nose, with the unique hinoki-like woody notes still present. The astringency feels slightly strong, possibly due to over-ripeness, but the peaty nuances that evoke a sense of earth and land were clearly felt, giving me the feeling of drinking time itself. However, since the woody notes slightly linger, I wish it had been bottled earlier. Nonetheless, this is a bottle full of the charm of the 1950s.
