The aroma is elegant and estery, with a significant sense of aging, featuring notes of white peach, orange, cream, and vanilla. Upon drinking, it has a very soft mouthfeel, with an elegant and diverse range of fruits and syrupy sweetness. The body is light, slightly faded, but it leaves a long-lasting aftertaste in the mouth.
[Good/Very Good]
This Tamdu 1958, aged for 42 years, was bottled by Hart Brothers. It is a rare malt distilled in the 1950s, with its alcohol content naturally dropping to just below 40% due to the long aging process. The aroma has a very strong sense of aging, with intense estery notes and a variety of fruits taking the lead. Elements such as barley or peat are barely noticeable.
When tasted, it starts with an extremely soft mouthfeel typical of long-aged, low-alcohol malts, and the same estery and aged fruits as in the aroma are felt. It has a refined sweetness.
The body is light, and it's hard to deny that it feels slightly over-ripe and faded. However, the aftertaste is surprisingly long.
This malt resembles types often found from Duncan Taylor, and the cask origin for this bottle may be in that area.
