Aberlour 1963 23 Year Old Moncreiffe
Bottle #アベラワー(ABERLOUR)
With a fruity profile reminiscent of Bowmore, I am not aware of any other Aberlour that exhibits such characteristics.
Aberlour ABERLOUR 1963 23yo Moncreiffe 46%
The aroma is vibrant and strong, with a good old character, grapefruit peel, passion fruit, light peach, white wine, hay, and a gentle barley note in the background. Upon drinking, it is soft, with passion fruit and grapefruit peel notes similar to the aroma, white grapes, a slightly refined sweetness but also a subtle depth. The finish is not long, yet fruity and trance-like.
【Very Good】
This Aberlour 1963 Moncreiffe is aged for 23 years. This series is diluted to 46%.
The aroma starts surprisingly fruity, and the direction is clearly different from what one might expect from Aberlour. Notes of tropical passion fruit and grapefruit peel reminiscent of the 1960s Bowmore from Duncan Taylor, which had a slightly lower alcohol content, were strongly felt.
When drinking, the same strong and diverse fruity notes as the aroma are present, with a refined sweetness. Although there is no body, there's a subtle depth that creates an enchanting experience.
This bottle was my second time drinking it in a few years, and I remember being surprised by the same fruity characteristics as before.
I have never felt this type of fruitiness in other Aberlours. Personally, I think the fruity notes emerged after being bottled at 46% and slightly dried out in the bottle.
I have also experienced similar fruitiness in other bottles with low alcohol content. It gives the impression of obtaining components by sacrificing body within the bottle.
Putting aside its typical characteristics, I thought this was an outstanding bottle in its own right.
