【Good/Very Good】
Intertrade bottled Bruichladdich 1964, aged for 21 years in 1986.
The aroma is dominated by strong woodiness with Hinoki from the start, and I strongly felt heavy pine resin and resin-like qualities, but from deeper layers, rich fruity nuances like cinnamon emerged, creating a layered and thick aroma.
When drinking, it has a fragrant expansion, the woodiness is less intense than the aroma and the fruity notes feel more diverse and concentrated. Also, elements like oil and malty characteristics that were less noticeable in the aroma became apparent.
Surprisingly, the bitterness is moderately controlled, and the rich, long aftertaste with weight was impressive.
Personally, I'm not particularly skilled with whiskies where Hinoki-like woodiness is too strong (though a bit can feel positive...), and among those I've drunk, the most notable Hinoki-like characteristics were from 1960s Glencairn and certain types of 1960s Bruichladdich.
Previously, I drank the same Intertrade Bruichladdich 1968-1985 16 year old, which had similar woodiness, but since the vintages differ, it's not a sister cask. Maybe Intertrade preferred this kind of whisky?
As a malt, it has sufficient distinctive character, and for those who like this kind of woodiness, I think this bottle is entirely reasonable to rate as VG or higher.
