Glenord GLENORD 1965-2004 39yo JACK WIEBERS WHISKY WORLD 'OLD TRAIN LINE' #1373 41%
One of 222 bottles, BOURBON CASK
The aroma features elegant estery notes of long maturation, a fruity cake with orange and loquat, floral elements, black tea, dried grass, and a refined barley character.
On the palate, it has a smooth mouthfeel with loquat, orange, delicate sweetness and acidity, and a subtle barley note. While lacking thickness, it leaves a clean finish.
[Good/Very Good]
From Jack Wiebers Whisky World's Old Train Line collection in Germany, this is Glenord 1965, matured for 39 years.
While many 60s whiskies have a robust barley character and well-rounded body, this one is somewhat of an exception.
The dominant aroma has a fruity estery quality reminiscent of slightly aged spirits, offering a vibrant and pleasant fragrance that initially surprised me upon first tasting.
Upon drinking, it lacks body thickness, with its hallmark being the vibrant fruits and refined sweetness.
Amidst many masculine, rugged whiskies, this one carries a feminine ambiance.
Overall, it resembles Samaroli's watered-down bouquet (same 1965 vintage), but this JWWW version feels even more refined.
As an ultra-long maturation sample, it's exceptionally interesting, revealing that even thick-bodied whiskies from that era could achieve such a finish depending on maturation conditions and duration.
Interestingly, I purchased this bottle before even my first tasting several years ago, but given its type, I don't expect it to improve further through bottle aging.
Perhaps I should open it sooner and enjoy its flavors at home.
