Bottle #グレンファークラス(GLENFARCLAS)
A matured Farclas in a Barysheri cask, extremely satisfying.
Glenfarclas (Ballindalloch) 1965 34yo KINGSBURY Celtic #4547 58.5%
One of 560 bottles
The aroma is strong sherry, dried fruits, grape juice, berry jam, bitter chocolate, intense black sugar, nuts, toasted barley, balsamic vinegar, herbs de Provence, rich, with a warm and smooth mouthfeel expanding into strong, aromatic sherry, berry fruit jams, good grape juice notes, dried fruits, black sugar, rich barley sweetness, thick body, herbs, and a long lingering finish.
[Very Good]
From the Celtic series of KINGSBURY, this Glenfarclas (Ballindalloch) 1965, 34-year-old cask #4547 was released to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Yurakucho Campbelltown Loch.
From its color, it's clearly a Barysheri cask, but the aroma immediately conveys strong sherry cask influence. Alongside concentrated dried fruits and berry jams, there was a pleasant grape juice-like nuance. The typical Barysheri elements like chocolate, black sugar, balsamic vinegar, and herbs were clearly present, with a toasted barley note emerging from deeper layers. Overall, it has significant thickness and richness.
Upon tasting, surprisingly smooth for its ABV with minimal stimulation, the dominant sherry character from the aroma is also present, but there's a pleasant juice-like quality in the flavor that left a strong positive impression. The thick body and long finish are notable, and there were almost no harsh tannins or unpleasant elements typically found in aged Barysheri casks.
There's a rumor that the initial bottling had a slightly different impression, but now it has matured into a well-rounded, rounded profile with excellent finish, making it clearly a prime drinking stage for a Barysheri cask.
This bottle was so satisfying that it's hard to decide between VG/E ratings.
Looking back, I think this review may have been influenced by relative comparisons, leading to an overall stricter rating than intended....
