Glencadam GLENCADAM 1966-1988 22yo CADENHEAD for MIZUHASHI 56% [Very Good]
Bottle #グレンカダム(GLENCADAM)
The cask influence is strong but the original spirit's flavor was also good. Glencadam GLENCADAM 1966-1988 22yo CADENHEAD for MIZUHASHI 56% Aroma: Strong, rich cask character with pencil shavings-like woodiness, slight pine resin, caramelized nuts, apricot jam, mint, cream, and cinnamon-spiced apple pie. Taste: Apple pie, a rich sweetness with a strong cask influence and a hint of hinoki-like woodiness, herbal notes including mint, cinnamon cream, and a rich, oaky finish. This is a Glencadam 1966 bottling by Cadenhead for Japanese company Mizuhashi. From the start, this bottle asserts its strong cask influence. Previously, when I drank it blind, I mistakenly thought it was Japanese and faced some embarrassment. This time, the impression is similar: a strong Japanese-like woody character with hints of pencil shavings and hinoki, along with a subtle bitterness. In both aroma and flavor, concentrated fruits, diverse spices, and herbs emerge slightly later, and I believe a creamy house-style flavor can be sensed. While this bottle has a slightly strong cask influence, which personally feels a bit intrusive, the original spirit's individuality and strength from this era shine through without being overwhelmed by the cask. Overall, it has a strong, assertive aroma and flavor.
