The aroma is a pleasant old sherry, plums, and a refined yet strong barley character with some earthiness.
When tasted, it has a gradual spicy flavor, a strong barley umami that lingers on the tongue, a satisfying chewiness, pleasant sweetness, a plain cask character compared to the aroma, and a long barley finish.
[Very Good]
This is a cask strength MiltonDuff 1966, aged for 22 years and bottled in 1988 by Sestante.
There is a faint old sherry character, along with some fruitiness, but the refined and strong malt character is more prominent.
There weren't many nuances that would typically emerge from bottle aging.
Even when tasted, it still feels lively and retains the spicy character typical of high proof whisky.
Although the cask character is faint, it delivers a refined and penetrating barley umami with a satisfying chewiness, as expected from the aroma.
Despite being over 30 years since bottling, there are no signs of deterioration or even positive changes within the bottle.
Like Green Caden and Society, green bottles seem to resist both deterioration and change.
Nevertheless, it's easy to imagine that this was a quite rough high proof malt when first bottled, and it must have become much more drinkable over time.
Personally, I prefer these kinds of whiskies even if they aren't overly complex.
