It was indeed a wonderful malt.
Bradnock BLADNOCH 1966-1989 23yo DUN EIDEANN #1636 50.8%
The aroma offers a pleasant old sherry character, with raisins, plums, and apricot jam, alongside mature barley notes and a touch of aged woodiness. On the palate, it delivers old sherry characteristics, reminiscent of grape skins, with floral hints akin to violets, sweet juice-like qualities, a balanced tannic bitterness from grape skins, and a long finish.
【Very Good/Excellent】
This DUN EIDEANN bottling from 1989 features Bradnock 1966, aged for 24 years. While DUN EIDEANN has not made extreme label changes to date, during this period, distillery and specification details were handwritten. This bottle, personally and among malt enthusiasts, is highly regarded as the best Bradnock, offering a rare opportunity to taste it again. The nuances of old sherry casks are clearly present, with depth and a strong presence of concentrated fruits like raisins in the aroma. The palate evokes juicy grape-like qualities, with subtle violet floral notes lingering in the background. While these perfumey elements are common in Bradnock, this bottle presented a first-time experience for me. However, these characteristics did not feel off-putting but rather added diversity. The balance between juicy sweetness and tannic bitterness was exquisite, offering an enjoyable, intoxicatingly long finish. Indeed, the best Bradnock.
