GlenGrant 1966-2010 43 Year Old GM Celtic Label #2928
Bottle #グレングラント(GLENGRANT)
As expected, the maturation is evident, but it was surprising that there was no excessive maturity.
GlenGrant GLENGRANT 1966-2010 43yo GM celtic label #2928 52.1%
One of 130 bottles, 1st Fill American Hogshead
The aroma has a very matured character, strongly estery and fruity, with canned peaches and their syrup, grapefruit, orange liqueur, mossy mule, chamomile tea, oak, faint young leaves. When drinking, it has a long-matured, intoxicating sensation with juicy-like pineapple and apricot, their fruity sweetness, a balanced acidity, and the oak tannins are not harsh. It has an elegant, transparent quality with a long, intoxicating aftertaste.
【Very Good】
This is a single cask GlenGrant 1966, matured for 43 years with the GM Celtic label. It is a perfect example of Speyside's long maturation, with a strong estery character from the bottler and a diverse range of fruity aromas. Elements like mossy mule and chamomile contribute to an intoxicating sensation. When drinking, the same matured character and intoxicating sensation of diverse fruits are felt, with a good balance of sweetness and acidity. Surprisingly, there was almost no harshness from the oak. As a result, it left an elegant and clear impression.
Indeed, the strong barley character typical of GlenGrant seems to have diminished in both aroma and flavor. However, due to its high alcohol content, the body is not hollow but rather leans heavily towards fruity notes. As a type that strongly emphasizes fruitiness, it still maintains a decent drinking satisfaction.
Personally, I prefer types where some barley character remains even after long maturation. However, this one is so thoroughly fruity and yet retains its body, which I find extremely delicious.
The most surprising thing is that despite being aged for 43 years in a first-fill American hogshead, there was almost no woody or harsh cask flavor. This kind of characteristic is occasionally seen in super long-matured Glenlivet, but GM has such mysterious casks. This must be one of the mysteries of GM, differing from my initial image of first-fill American casks.
