Glenfarclas GLENFARCLAS 1966-2013 47yo HUNTER LAING Old & Rare 48.5%
one of 207 bottles, Sherry Butt
The aroma offers an enchanting sherry character with berry and grape notes (with skins), caramelized nuts, a strong but not harsh woody character, herbs, and an extremely rich complexity.
On the palate, it begins with a smooth mouthfeel expanding into dried fruits, juicy grape sensations and their sweetness, a tightening woody strength and tannins, caramelized nuts, and a long, intoxicating finish.
【Very Good】
This Glenfarclas (distillery name not indicated) from the Hunter Laing range was released after maturing for 47 years, from 1966. Despite its ultra-long maturation, the ABV of 48.5% still remains notable.
From the very first aroma, a distinctively enchanting sherry character reminiscent of the 1960s is clearly present, filling the chest with warmth.
The fruity notes of berries and grapes with a juicy sensation are highly appealing, complemented by a diverse array of complex sherry elements.
The woody character is strong but not overly harsh.
On the palate, there's a smoothness from long maturation leading into an aromatic expansion, showcasing a remarkable sherry character.
Similar to the aroma, there's a charming fruity sensation with a pleasant sweetness accompanying it.
The woody strength and tannic bitterness are somewhat strong, but remain within acceptable limits, with an astonishing lack of dryness or fatigue.
Overall, it's extremely complex, offering a rich diversity that could easily lead to an extensive tasting note. While the cask strength and bitterness might suggest over-ripeness, the overall quality of this malt is so high that pointing it out feels unnecessary.
Though not reaching expressions like 'noble' or 'seductive,' there are elements suggesting such directions, and the fresh, juicy fruitiness that remains after 47 years of maturation was truly remarkable.
I believe this was a treasured cask for Hunter Laing.
