The 60s bottlers Bowmore with a strong, full-bodied tropical fruit flavor. Bowmore BOWMORE 1966-2001 35yo Helmsdale 46.2% one of 120 bottles, Hogshead The aroma features strong tropical fruits such as ripe mango, lychee, pineapple, citrus peel, gentle peat, a subtly sexy undercurrent, and a hint of sea breeze. On the palate, similar tropical fruits like mango and lychee dominate, with a rich sweetness of ripe fruit, good oak tannins, briny and peaty notes emerging in the finish. The body is full, fruity, and slightly oily with a long, intoxicating aftertaste. 【Very Good/Excellent】 This Bowmore 1966, aged for 35 years, was bottled by Helmsdale in 2001. The label features Chinese poetry, making it a rare and highly sought-after example of 60s Bowmore in Japan. The distinct tropical flavors, particularly mango, are strongly present, accompanied by a slightly sexy nuance reminiscent of a subtle musk. While the cask origin may be shared with later bottlings such as the Duncan Taylor-Piarles Collection, this release has a higher ABV, preserving more body and the robust, seaweed-like peatiness characteristic of Islay. Compared to subsequent releases where maturation periods continued to extend, this bottle shows minimal woody overtones of over-aging. After a decade since its initial release, I had the opportunity to taste many other 60s Bowmore bottlings in between, which only deepened my appreciation for this exceptional whisky. This bottle was kindly provided by Yakudaka-sha in Kagurazaka. #Bowmore (BOWMORE)
