Springbank SPRINGBANK 1967-2002 35yo DUNCAN TAYLOR PEERLESS COLLECTION #1943 40.5%
one of 214 bottles
The aroma is lavish and strong, with a sense of maturation, featuring freeze-dried strawberries, orange or pear cake, crème brûlée, and floral notes. When drinking, it has a very smooth mouthfeel with pear, peach, vanilla cream, and a rich, velvety sweetness that is slightly smooth and refined. It has a clear briny character with a pleasant, intoxicating aftertaste despite its lack of body.
【Very Good】
The Duncan Taylor Peerless Collection, this Springbank 1967 is a 35-year-old matured whisky from when the bottle still had the PEERLESS marking. As expected of Peerless, the alcohol content is right at 40%.
The aroma has a clear sense of long-term maturation, with lavish and strong notes reminiscent of freeze-dried strawberries, fruit cakes, and creamy Western confections like crème brûlée. When drinking, it similarly evokes fruit cake but maintains a refined sweetness, with the briny character typical of Springbank that lingers on the palate.
This is precisely what one would expect from a long-matured Springbank by Duncan Taylor, with the bottle offering an intoxicating blend of the bottler's and distillery's individualities. I remember drinking this bottle in Yurakucho years ago, which left me in awe, and later seeking out similar Peerless bottles with near-identical specifications to drink. Back then, I favored this type of whisky with its fruity intoxication despite lacking body or malty characteristics. I must have purchased and drunk quite a few Peerless bottles.
Even now, it's certainly delicious, but I feel slightly unsatisfied. Drinking something like this makes me realize how my preferences have changed over time.
