BOWMORE 1968-1999 31yo SIGNATORY #3820 44% - One of 252 bottles
Bottle #ボウモア(BOWMORE)
Drinking it again, I still think Bowmore from the 60s is special. BOWMORE 1968-1999 31yo SIGNATORY #3820 44% One of 252 bottles The aroma is lavish and strong, with a very intoxicating array of fruits: passion fruit, grapefruit zest, lychee, peach, white grape, a faint sweaty note, and gentle peat. When drinking, it starts with a soft mouthfeel that expands into an extravagant burst of the same intoxicating fruits as the aroma, with a refined sweetness and acidity reminiscent of juice, gradually revealing peatiness and a fruity, intoxicating finish. [Very Good/Excellent] This is Bowmore 1968 bottled by Signatory in 1999, aged for 31 years. From the first whiff, an explosion of highly intoxicating fruity notes characteristic of 60s Bowmore, with tropical fruits like passion fruit and lychee, grapefruit zest, white grape, and more, delivering the expected diversity. From the depths, peatiness also emerges, along with occasionally a sexy, sweaty nuance reminiscent of 60s Bowmore, which was particularly impressive. Tasting it also delivers the same intoxicating sensation as the aroma, with a pleasant juicy nuance and perfectly balanced sweetness and acidity, making for an excellent flavor profile. While bottlings of this type by Signatory, centered around Duncan Taylor, often exchange a wonderful intoxicating fruitiness for a somewhat delicate body, this one lacks thickness but didn't feel overly light. At home, it can sometimes emphasize lightness and reduce the sense of appreciation, but drinking it again at a bar truly makes me think how wonderful it is. Even without a substantial body, this malt delivers a satisfying sense of fulfillment in every sip.
