The nose is very fruity, strong guava, passion fruit, sexy wakiga (sweaty), smoky peat from the back.
When drinking, it has a smooth mouthfeel, no weight but viscous, tropical fruits similar to the aroma, sweet and mellow, faint umami from seafood, moist peat, slightly oily with an intoxicating finish.
[Very Good]
From Duncan Taylor, this is the Bowmore 1968, aged for 37 years, part of the Peerless Collection (now without official labeling). As expected, the alcohol content is very low at 40.5%, right at the minimum for whisky.
As described above, the explosive tropical fruits from the start meet expectations, with a sexy nuance as the peat gradually emerges, leading to intoxication.
There's a concentrated feel typical of cask strength, though the body isn't thick, it lacks little in terms of clarity.
Even with this low alcohol content and relatively short aging period, the tropical character is present, suggesting that these elements aren't merely a result of the whisky mellowing over time.
Unexpectedly, there's also a savory seafood umami and a pleasant moist peat note, with an extremely fruity finish that is far from short.
Perhaps due to consciously drinking more fruity malts and deepening my understanding, I now feel that this Duncan Taylor with low alcohol content also has elements beyond just fruity notes.
With its limited numbers, this 1960s Bowmore is destined to become a legend.
While there are several similar bottles, true substitutes are rare.
