Benriach BENRIACH 1968-2006 37yo OB for TAIWAN #2710 51.5%
One of 152 bottles, Hogshead
The aroma is estery and remarkably vibrant, featuring strong notes of peach, white pear, orange, passion fruit, yogurt-like dairy, pleasant oak, and gradually intensifying cream. Upon drinking, it expands into a richly aromatic profile with chemical-like characteristics reminiscent of children's syrup medicine, but the intense fruity elements (peach, orange, passion fruit, papaya) dominate. The sweetness of fresh juice is balanced by the tightening tannins from oak, while the body remains robust and lingers with a long, intoxicating finish. [Very Good]
This is an official bottling of Benriach 1968, aged for 37 years and released exclusively for Taiwan in 2006. From the outset, the aroma showcases the vibrant and diverse fruits characteristic of long-matured Benriach in a Hogshead. The intense juiciness centered around peach explodes on the palate, with a faint chemical-like quality reminiscent of children's syrup medicine. However, the overwhelming fruity character overshadows these elements. The whisky is so fruit-forward that many other characteristics seem to fade into the background. Notably, the body remains intact—unlike many similarly fruity malts that often lack a solid structure. Thanks to its high alcohol content and excellent woody depth, this bottle retains a strong body, resulting in an exceptionally long and satisfying finish.
