Despite the specs, the plant notes were well-balanced but interesting and delicious in aroma.
Millburn MILLBURN 1969-2005 36yo DOUGLAS LAING Old Malt Cask #2152 50% one of 299 bottles, Refill Hogshead
The aroma has overripe citrus, strong fresh herbal notes, a solid barley presence, a touch of ginger and butterscotch. When drinking, there's some spiciness, but also a refined barley umami that lingers on the tongue, pleasant herbal notes, ginger and cinnamon, gentle sweetness, with a pleasant finish. [Good/Very Good]
This is a 36-year-old Millburn from Douglas Laing's OMC. Although the aging period is long, it seems to have come from a relatively plain cask, so the aged character isn't prominent in the aroma. Instead, strong fresh herbal notes come through, with barley characteristics remaining, and a hint of ginger-like qualities. This type of aroma is relatively rare for such specs. The flavor has a refined texture, with the umami of barley lingering on the tongue, which is impressive. The herbal notes are positive and complement the barley characteristics. Although there's not much complexity considering the specs, this 1960s Millburn has many aspects that became diverse and appealing over time after bottling.
