One of 516 bottles, Butt
The aroma is elegant with good strawberry jam, apricot jam, a touch of grape, and the woodiness of antique furniture. Upon drinking, it starts with a smooth mouthfeel that expands into a rich aroma of strawberry jam, slightly grape juice and herbs. It has an enchanting quality with a fruity, rich sweetness and pleasant tannins, a faint briny note, and a long finish. [Very Good]
This Springbank 1969 bottled by Dun Bheagan in 2004 was likely matured for 35 years in a sherry butt. The aroma immediately presents the characteristic Springbank sherry note of strawberry jam, with a pleasant nuance reminiscent of grape juice. The flavor also carries the same fruity character and has an enchanting quality. The balance of sweetness, tannins, and a faint brininess is well done, with a very good fruity finish. There was almost no barley character, and while complexity is not particularly high, the type of bottle that emphasizes a captivating fruity sensation stood out. Springbank from Dun Bheagan, alongside the Chief's Ten, was once perceived as reasonably priced for 60s bottlings, but it turned out to be completely unavailable now. This was definitely a bottle worth stockpiling.
