Home Tasting: Aberlour 1970 31 Year Old Official Bottling for La Maison du Whisky
Bottle #アベラワー(ABERLOUR)
My current best Aberlour. The image of a strong-willed yet beautiful woman.
Aberlour ABERLOUR 1970 31yo OB for La Maison du Whisky 56.1%
・Aroma:
The aroma is elegant and diverse, slightly estery with a sense of aging, white peach, orange, persimmon, faint kiwi and pineapple, white wine, a touch of wax, strong but not harsh barley, a fluffy and expansive honey strength, honey toast, vanilla cream, pleasant oak, faint ginger, complex with depth yet overall transparent, somehow sexy and intoxicating.
・Flavor:
Starting with a gentle mouthfeel that expands into rich aromas, similarly diverse fruits like ripe oranges and white peaches as in the aroma, vanilla, a smooth and refined barley sensation with pronounced umami, oak and its tannins deepen the flavor, a rich yet soft honey sweetness is well-presented, gentle acidity, a beautifully balanced combination of fruity, malty, sweetness, acidity, and tannins, forming the image of a beautiful woman with elegance. There's some complexity and depth, yet overall surprisingly clear and beautifully layered, with a good body thickness.
・Aftertaste:
The balance between fruity and malty notes lingers long on the palate.
・Watering Down:
The profile remains intact even with added water.
・Overall Review:
A well-aged, diverse fruity character combined with a pleasant malty sensation.
The soft honey sweetness is comforting, complex yet transparent, extremely beautiful and delicious whisky.
【Very Good/Excellent】
The official Aberlour 1970, 31-year-old cask strength bottling for La Maison du Whisky.
I previously drank this at Yurakucho and found it extremely delicious, so I sought out the bottle.
Compared to other official Aberlour bottlings, this has a lighter color, no caramel notes, and isn't sherry cask influenced. However, upon re-tasting, it remains my best Aberlour to date.
The aging is perfectly balanced with no off-putting notes, and I feel it was bottled at the ideal time.
The soft yet rich honey sweetness is impressive, but most importantly, the balance between fruity, malty, sweet, acidic, and tannic elements is exceptionally outstanding. While it has clear aging characteristics like fruity notes, what truly deserves evaluation are the multiple layers of aroma and flavor, as well as this balance—this aspect might be slightly more niche for connoisseurs.
It becomes more delicious with every sip. A clean, complex yet unblemished malt with a certain luster and the charm of a strong-willed woman.
