A delicious Springbank with a viscous sensation. Springbank SPRINGBANK 1970-2004 33yo IAN MACLEOD CHIEFTAIN'S CHOICE #2965 50.2% one of 192 bottles, Hogshead The aroma is strong, with apricot and berry jams, ripe plums, black tea, damp leather, and a viscous sensation. Upon drinking, it has a similarly fruity, smooth texture with intense sweetness from berry and apricot jams, a rich body, pleasant brininess, and a long, rich finish. [Very Good] From Ian Macleod's Chief's Choice series comes Springbank 1970, aged 33 years. The aroma is strong, with a viscous sensation of concentrated fruits like apricot jam, and I felt a slightly damp nuance. Rather than the florals of the former Springbank described as 'malt perfume,' this has a more grounded, rich aroma. Upon tasting, it had the viscous sensation as expected, with a smooth texture and intense sweet fruit jam flavors, a strong body. It also had the briny characteristics typical of Springbank, making it a very rich and delicious malt. Chief's Choice is often associated with plain labels, so older vintage Springbanks were relatively cheap and circulated in the market until the end. However, nowadays it's rare to find any for sale. Indeed, this is an exception and delicious as expected.
