Bottle #ボウモア(BOWMORE)
A standout bottle where rich fruitiness and intense peat merge seamlessly. BOWMORE BOWMORE 1971 14yo SESTANTE 57.7% The aroma is opulent yet substantial, featuring old sherry, strawberry and plum jam, concentrated grape juice with skins, overripe pineapple, caramel sauce, boiled-down black tea, powerful peat, leaf mold, tanned leather, and a complex bouquet that rises up. Upon tasting, it expands with a rich, forceful flavor, similarly intensely fruity as the aroma, with juicy grape notes reminiscent of biting into berries and grapes with skins, mint that clears the nose, a wildness, leaf mold, a robust yet matured peatiness, and an alluringly sexy, intoxicatingly long finish. 【Excellent】 This SESTANTE BOWMORE 1971 is aged for 14 years. It's a cask strength sherry cask finish, and has been bottled for over 30 years. The rich sherry character from the 1970s is clearly present, with jammy notes and concentrated grape juice with skins. It also has a tropical feel reminiscent of pineapple, differing from the guava-like notes of the 1960s, making it highly fruity. The fruitiness alone is remarkably diverse, with tropical notes being just one element. While retaining a strong peatiness that is both powerful and earthy with hints of leaf mold and wildness, it also maintains the punchy strength typical of Islay cask strengths. The once bold aromas from when it was bottled have mellowed through aging, adding complexity and a seductive allure while still preserving the intensity of each flavor element. It felt like an almost perfect drinking moment. Although I aim to write more concisely now, considering the word count for Whisky Galore's tastings, I couldn't help but write at length due to the overflowing aromas. This bottle was uncorked for the 19th anniversary celebration at Oudaiy's in Sagamihara. Congratulations! This year's high standards have made me a bit worried about next year's 20th anniversary, but the master seemed confident. #BOWMORE (BOWMORE)
