Longmorn LONGMORN 1971-1999 SCOTT'S Selection 58.6%
The aroma is an extremely intoxicating noble sherry, dripping with grape juice pressed with the skin, berry jam, mixed dried fruits, prunes, black sugar, cola-like caramel, faint balsamic, bouquet garni, leather, decaying leaves, with a subtle hint of roasted barley and peat in the background. The taste begins with a smooth mouthfeel, expanding powerfully with an amazing noble sherry character, concentrated tropical fruits, rich sweetness of grape juice pressed with the skin, and a firm tannic bitterness. Notes of decaying leaves, leather, herbs, warm richness, and an intense fruity finish with a long, intoxicating aftertaste.
[Evcellent]
Bottled by Scott in 1999, this Longmorn 1971 has aged for approximately 28 years. Although it's a well-known and delicious bottle, this one was still exceptionally tasty. The aroma is undeniably juicy, reminiscent of grape juice pressed with the skin, while also incorporating other fruity notes like berry jam and dried fruits. It also contains elements of herbs, leather, earthy decaying leaves, and peat, making it a highly diverse, complex, and intoxicating aroma. It's an unusual feeling, wanting to keep smelling it forever or immediately put it in your mouth and savor it. The flavor, while beginning to show some roundness after bottling, remains powerful, with the same wonderful sherry character and fresh grape juice notes overflowing. The supporting elements are as diverse and rich as the aroma, with a long-lasting aftertaste of juicy sweetness and tightening bitterness. This is an outstanding Longmorn from the early 1970s sherry casks, reminiscent of my beloved Intertrade 1972, filling me with happiness from drinking malt whisky.
