Clynelish 1972 The Whisky Exchange Online 10th Anniversary Commemoration
Bottle #クライヌリッシュ(CLYNELISH)
The flavor was clearly representative of Clynelish from 1972.
Clynelish CLENELISH 1972 THE WHISKY EXCHANGE 10 YEARS ONLINE 46%
The aroma was very waxy, with notes of beeswax, apricot jam, pear, white grape, acacia honey, a good grainy character, oil. Upon drinking, it had a silky viscosity, a gentle apricot jam sweetness with honey depth, subtle grainy and peaty undertones. The body was moderate, oily, with a long, intoxicating finish.
【Very Good】
This Clynelish was one of the bottles released for The Whisky Exchange's online 10th anniversary celebration, bottled around 2009. While the vintage isn't explicitly stated, it was aged for 37 years from a 1972 distillation. Notably, other bottles released for this anniversary included Longmorn, Linkwood, and Hakushu's Valrhona.
From the first aroma, the unmistakable waxy character and nuances of beeswax, white grape, and apricot jam were strongly present. Upon tasting, the silky texture was as expected, with a rich sweetness that left a strong positive impression. Compared to earlier bottles of the same vintage with higher alcohol content, it slightly lacked in viscosity and depth but compensated with a more vibrant fruity character. Whether due to aging or dilution, the body wasn't overly thick, but the oily, intoxicating finish lingered long.
As far as I know, the last Clynelish 1972 bottled by The Exchange was in 2011 at around 42% ABV. Though there were rumors of dilution to 46%, I suspect minimal dilution was actually applied. Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed this flavor and found it satisfying.
