Cragganmore CRAGGANMORE 1972-2003 30yo THE SCOTCH MALT WHISKY SOCIETY 37.19 49.3%
The aroma is elegant and complex, with each fruit note being subtle: pear, orange, peach, vanilla, honey, a rugged barley character, and a touch of cream. On the palate, it starts with a refined, smooth mouthfeel, expanding into orange oil, faint pear, gentle barley umami, a texture that lingers on the tongue, a pleasant sweetness with body, plain oak cask character, slightly oily with a long finish.
【Very Good】
This is the 37th release from The Scotch Malt Whisky Society: Cragganmore 1972, aged for 30 years. The aroma has a natural aging character, with a subtle yet diverse fruitiness, honey, and a barley note that remained more than expected for its aging duration. The palate has a refined, smooth mouthfeel with a texture that lingers on the tongue. Again, natural and diverse fruitiness along with gentle barley umami were noticeable, and the sweet, full-bodied flavor was a pleasant impression. As it was aged in a plain oak cask with minimal influence, I think this natural balance of retaining enough barley character despite such long aging is remarkable. It combines the elegance typical of Speyside with a rugged barley character, and with its mellowed character after bottling, it's an outstanding malt that offers a perfect drinking moment.
