Clynelish CLYNELISH 1972-2009 36yo GM BOOK OF KELLS for LA Maison du Whisky #14301 59.4% Refill Sherry Hogshead
The aroma features apricot jam, plum, black tea, wax and resin, oil, an overarching sherry character, barley notes from the depth, and a strong woody quality.
On the palate, it has viscosity, a pleasant sherry character, apricot jam, black tea, wax, and honey-like sweetness. The barley's umami remains surprisingly, with a solid woody and tannic structure, oily texture, and a rich, long finish.
【Very Good】
This is a Clynelish 1972, aged for 36 years, bottled by GM under the so-called Celtic Label for La Maison du Whisky in France.
The aroma has an overarching sherry character, with fruity notes from the cask, apricot-like nuances typical of Clynelish 1972, and a waxy, resinous character that coexist harmoniously without conflict.
Upon tasting, despite its near 60% high proof, the viscosity lessens the perception of alcohol strength.
Similar to the aroma, the pleasant sherry character and Clynelish's characteristic waxy nuances are well-matched. Surprisingly, the rustic umami of barley remains, offering a convincing deliciousness.
The cask character is somewhat strong; personally, I prefer Clynelish 1972 with a subtler sherry character. However, the house style, sherry character, and maltiness intertwine complexly to form a very delicious malt. It seems many prefer this type, and objectively, it might deserve a rating of VG/E.
