Clynelish CLYNELISH 1972-2010 37yo GM Celtic Label for La Maison du Whisky #14300 58.9% Refill Sherry Hogshead
The aroma features plum wine, apricot jam, tree sap, a touch of larch and leaf mold, wax, rustic barley notes, richness, and black tea.
On the palate, it has a smooth mouthfeel with the rich sweetness of apricot jam, cider, light viscosity or oiliness, and a pleasant, long finish.
[Good/Very Good]
This is a 37-year-old Clynelish bottled for La Maison du Whisky by GM. It has a full range of characteristic Clynelish aromas like apricot jam, tree sap, and wax, with a refined maturity from long aging. Notably, the aroma strongly resembles plum wine, which was an impressive characteristic, as it had a more earthy profile than usual.
Excluding official bottlings, other bottlers like Exchange have 1972 Clynelish with a stronger, more viscous texture and oiliness, giving a concentrated impression. However, GM's version lacks that intensity but instead has a more floral and elegant character.
This bottle also reflects that style. Of course, its distinctiveness is clearly noticeable even blind tasting, but I felt it was a type of Clynelish from this vintage that could be enjoyed smoothly despite its high alcohol content.
