Glenrothes GLENROTHES 1972 GM 'CASK' 59.5% 80s Circulation
The aroma is strong and lustrous, with a good old-fashioned feel, plums and berries that evoke juice, ripe oranges, baked apples, raisins, chocolate, strong cinnamon, and a well-developed malty sweetness. A diverse range of aromas. When drinking, it starts with a powerful mouthfeel that expands into an aromatic and refined flavor. Indeed, sexy. The same as the aroma, with fruity sweetness like plum jam and good acidity from apricot jam, a very strong malty umami, thick body, and long finish. [Very Good/Excellent]
This Glenrothes 1972 is from the CASK series of GM, and appears to be a product circulated in the 1980s. The aroma has a good old-fashioned feel, but also an inexplicable sensuality. The fruitiness is diverse, with not only ripe fruits that evoke juice but also nuances like baked apples and dried fruits. The cinnamon is strongly felt, and the clear assertion of malt was a good aspect despite not being overly matured.
When drinking, it has the same aromatic and sexy nuances as the aroma, creating a significant sense of intoxication. It feels like a liquid where diverse fruity sweetness and acidity are condensed with a solid malty umami, making me think it's a shame to drink it up so quickly.
Despite feeling it was a shame to finish drinking, I ended up having seconds. (Laugh)
As I wrote about Samaroli's Ode and Bouquet before, there are bottles that somehow manage to have a diverse fruity feel and aging character while maintaining a solid body and the ability to sense maltiness without being overly matured.
It's an extremely persuasive deliciousness, and when drinking something like this, I think it's great that I'm drinking malt whisky. Also, I'm very curious about what the flavor was like at the time of bottling for such bottles.
