Inverleven 1973-2011 37 Year Old Official 'DEOCH an DORAS'
Bottle #インバーリーヴン(INVERLEVEN)
Now it's expensive but not too high, this is a long-aged official bottle from a closed distillery.
Inverleven INVERLEVEN 1973-2011 37yo OB 'DEOCH an DORAS' 49%
The aroma is rich with a sense of aging, featuring street candy apples, apricot jam, a strong core of thick barley notes from the depth, honey, nuts, faint cinnamon, and slightly buttery oily undertones. Upon drinking, it starts with a smooth mouthfeel that expands into a rich flavor, with viscosity, apricot jam, heated apples, and a concentrated umami barley taste with a slightly chewy texture. There's a honey-like sweetness, pleasant oak notes, and a long oily finish despite the body not being overly heavy. [Very Good]
Inverleven 1973, aged for 37 years. This is an official bottling marked by Seabass Brothers rather than Pernod Ricard, and it appears to be part of a series that includes the closed distillery 'DEOCH an DORAS'. The aroma has the robustness of a major official long-aged whisky, with a strong core of barley umami and aged malt notes reminiscent of heated fruits or candy apples. The weightiness of honey, nuts, and butter was also noticeable.
Tasting it reveals a smooth, viscous mouthfeel with broad flavor development. The taste includes the rich sweetness of heated fruits and honey, along with a deep barley umami that offers some chewiness, accompanied by a long oily finish. While Roland Malt often feels lighter and more slender, this whisky has a substantial, meaty quality, with the oily finish reminiscent of Roland Malt's occasional character.
A whisky that combines a strong core and aged depth, truly reflecting the seriousness of a major distillery. Additionally, upon reviewing the photos later, I noticed that this bottle's tasting notes mention 'sweet candy apple'. My description of 'fairground candy apples' must be different, I suppose. (Laughing)
This bottle is still sold overseas for around 40,000 yen. When I drank a cask variation of this bottle at a bar in 2011, I thought it was expensive. However, considering this is a special ultra-long-aged cask strength official bottling from a closed distillery with excellent flavor, it's unlikely we'll ever see such a release at this price again. Expensive but not too expensive... it's making my financial sense feel a bit off.
