When drinking, it gradually becomes spicy and expands into a rich bouquet of loquat and freeze-dried strawberries, with their pleasant sweetness and acidity, the penetrating grainy notes and umami, strong brininess, solid smoke and tar, oil, and a long briny finish. 【Very Good/Excellent】 This Clynelish 1973, aged for 33 years, was bottled for Prestonfield. From the start, there is an extremely floral and mature aroma that immediately captivates. The notes of loquat, white wine, slightly green melon, and a freeze-dried strawberry nuance reminiscent of old plain cask Springbank were impressive, along with a solid floral element. Slightly delayed from these, the heavier Clynelish-like wax and oil nuances emerge modestly. Additionally, a notable peat nuance with tar-like qualities was clearly felt. The aroma was extremely complex and intoxicating. When drinking, the matured, diverse fruity notes similar to the aroma take over, with a showy yet refined expansion, peat presence, and although not overly viscous or full-bodied, it had a certain thickness. There was also a textured quality that seemed to come from aging, with the oily characteristics and grain umami of the house style remaining. Unexpectedly distinctive was the strong brininess, which combined with the freeze-dried strawberry notes, giving it a scent that might be guessed as Springbank in a blind tasting. In my view, the most 'Clynelish-like' expression, as represented by 1972, often lacks the showy maturity aroma that is common in other distilleries like Pluckley. However, this bottle clearly conveyed that elegance. That is what I feel makes this bottle uniquely appealing.
